Welcome to Sailing at Chelsea Yacht Club and the 2011 Sailing season
Chelsea Yacht Club is situated on a beautiful sandy beach on the foreshore at Chelsea. Access is via Kelvin Grove opposite the first railway level crossing as you travel towards Chelsea from Edithvale side.
Chelsea Yacht Club is an off the beach club catering for mono-hulls and catamarans, and there is also a strong social following. The club has a licensed bar and a large hall and small member’s room both available for hire. There are also numerous other non sailing activities occurring during the week.
The clubhouse is a multi story building with boat storage and change rooms on the ground level, a bar, balcony, canteen and hall facilities on the second level and a race control tower on the third level. The club was seriously damaged in 2009 when the tower and much of the roof was blown away in a storm.
However the repairs are complete and the tower, canteen and halls are better than they were before. The bar is open year round on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights from ??pm.
Currently classes sailing at Chelsea included: Sabots, Pacers, 125's, Javelins, Impulses, Lasers, LW Sharpies, Mustos and a few catamarans. All levels of sailing ability are catered for, and the members are willing to assist the inexperienced. New members and classes are always welcome.
The club offers sail training facilities and we have a number of club Pacers and Sabots that we can teach people how to sail. Training runs throughout the sailing season with breaks over Christmas and long weekends.
The club also endeavours to annually run PowerBoat Handling courses to provide both the competencies and practical training for people wishing to obtain a powerboat driver’s licence.
The sail training sessions are run on Saturday mornings and club racing on Saturday afternoons. Please consult the club’s racing calendar for more details. Contact the club if you want to enquire about Powerboat training.
Chelsea Yacht Club volunteers run the Saturday afternoon sailing program. Volunteering on race management boats or in the club tower can be an enjoyable way to spend a Saturday afternoon and what’s more no experience is necessary!
